Did you know 4.0 — information & data facts and figures you might find surprising

Some facts that jumped out at me:

  • 240,000,000 TVs in the U.S. (not in this apartment!!!)
  • 2,000,000 of those TVs are in bathrooms
  • An average teen receives 2272 text messages a MONTH (gosh this really shows my age. I receive 0.5 a month. Some months are o)

Good lord. Who needs a tv in their bathroom?! I’m not surprised by the texting thing. Not only do all my teenage cousins text all the time (during dinner, during class, while they’re hanging out with other friends, etc.) but I also have a five-year-old cousin and a nine-year-old cousin who have iPhones. Wtf? I’m not very old (25) but even I feel ancient compared to teens and kids today. All this technology has really gotten out of hand…

Wow. A tv in one’s bathroom. – Well, at least one is in an appropriate place to react to much on television. -

Yeah, I’m not into texting. I don’t think it’s an age thing entirely – a few ex-gf’s of mine were text obsessed – I think it’s more how one wants to communicate.

A television in the bathroom? *shakes head* I know some people like that – when they get a new television instead of wondering what to do with the old one they think “where can I put” the old one lol! We don’t even own a television in this house – do all of our show-watching online.

I think texting is great when you put it in it’s place – you can communicate without talking just like email (which I love). That said I may send two or three texts a year – and those are mainly emails to my texting-addicted friends. I’m always on a computer, so it is easier to just send an email!

I think the benefit of having a TV is that you can watch anything on it, even shows that you download or stream online. I can’t believe that people still text these days, though. Cmail’s where it’s at, iphone or otherwise.

I’m all for technology and have pretty much stayed on the cutting edge where possible (in terms of reading about, not owning), but at 29 I feel like I’m being left behind somewhat. I just can’t imagine what sort of information exchange will be taking place ten, twenty or fifty years from now.

That 90% of emails are spam was perhaps the most surprising statistic to me. Kinda makes me glad for my gmail spam filter!
