Where Does Your City Rank?

I always love to look at studies like this. The Economist magazine does a ranking of the best cities in the world to live in. Not all cities are included (obviously) but they start from 150 major cities from all around the world. How are cities ranked? Based on a number of factors that include:

  • infrastructure
  • cost of living
  • events
  • etc.

The results? Australia has 4 of the top 10 cities while Canada has 3. The top ranked US city is Honolulu which is 26th. Just take a look at this chart which has the top cities.

I’ve been lucky enough to go to 6 of the top 10 including all members of the top 5! I’ve gotta say, Melbourne seems very deserving of that top spot. It has it all, great infrastructure, nice people, beaches, incredible weather, etc.

As a Canadian, I must say I’m surprised that Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary come before amazing places like Paris, Tokyo, New York and many others. I must be used to these green landscapes! 😉

I’d also be curious to compare results from 20-30 years ago to see if African and South American cities are more numerous now than they were before. Would that mean life of their citizens is improving?

Is Your City in the Top 10? If You Had One to Visit, Which One Would You Choose?
