When Life Seems So Simple
It’s funny how life is sometimes. Like so many of you, life sometimes feel like it’s a big swirl with so many things happening, dates and appointments to remember, never ending task lists, friends and family to get back to, etc. As much as I try to simplify my life, to clear my mind, to store everything in the clouds, my mind still gets cluttered both at work and at home. There’s nothing like going on vacations
Vacation beach
I don’t know about you, but I can easily remember what it felt like a few months ago when I went to the beach for a week of vacations. In a matter of minutes, it feels as if so much weight is lifted from my shoulders. All that to do list suddenly becomes very short and very enjoyable:
-Relax
-Spend quality time with my wife and/or family
-Think/plan about the very few things to do (eat, sleep, etc)
It’s amazing when your worst concerns are about what kind of salad you will be eating, if the waves will be good enough and what time the next expedition leaves at.
Every time that happens, I always start wondering about how I could feel like this in every day life. At a minimum, trying to get back to that feeling once in a while would already be a big improvement.
Not So Simple
Of course, it’s so much easier said than done. My wife and I tend to have a very busy schedule, even on weekends which is great because we get to see friends and family, do sports, etc. But it’s so easy to get completely overwhelmed when you start booking your weekends so much in advance. It also becomes much more challenging to take time to relax, to get away from the daily routine, etc.
My Tricks To Recreate The Same Light Feeling
There are many different things that I try to do, I would also love to hear yours:
-Taking walks with my wife: Just feels like getting away from everything in order to talk about our days, about what we have in mind, etc is a great way for us to relax, regain perspective, etc
-Book Ourselves One On One Time: It’s so easy to get booked for a family dinner or a work evening but we now take the time to book at least 2-3 times/month, an evening with each other. It just makes it much easier to say no since we do have something planned. We usually try to go out for a date, a dinner, see a movie, etc.
-Go On Vacations On A Fequent Basis: As much of an improvement as we’ve been able to achieve, there’s nothing better than going back on vacations to remember the type of mindset and degree of relaxation that we’re aiming for
How about you? Do you get any inspiration or ideas to minimize your life from vacations?
