Update on the Traveling Situation: Where am I going next?

Love it. He even tells me where I can put the suitcase and what I should put in each.

Note: It says “No batteries” above, because that’s how thieves scan a car with a device to know if there are any electronics in there; batteries will beep with such a device.

Also, he knows I have a whole whack load of clothes, shoes and purses, so he gives me the side-eye when he says: “Is that all?”

I’ve been to all of the US cities on your list save the two in Texas. Austin is high on my list of must-see places though! NYC is pretty cool. LA didn’t wow me as much as San Francisco did. I feel head-over-heels in love with SF and cannot wait to go back. And I’m surprised to say how much I LOVE Vegas. I’m not into gambling or shows but somehow manage to have a great time whenever I’m out there. I’ve done some great hikes at Red Rock Canyon, Spring Mountain Ranch, Valley of Fire and Death Valley.

I only remember going to Las Vegas as a kid but all I remember is a hotel room and a toy slot machine….

I think your travels sound great! When you go to Brussels, I’d say about 2 days would be fine. You could skip Manneke Pis because it’s really small and not very impressive. But the churches and older buildings are very nice (also visit the Exki for healthy food :) ). From the 5 trips I’ve only been to Barcelona on a day trip, but it’s well worth it!

OH GOOD! :) i’m glad to hear you say that re: Brussels.

my two favourite places in vienna are spittelberg and naschmarkt. spittelberg because of all the cute old houses (and the chrismas market, if you are there in december) and naschmarkt because of all the yummy food. try to see other parts of the city than the first district (inner city) – like the area around augarten/karmelitermarkt (there are many chic restaurants) and the 7th district. (of course there are many more places to see! but they are my personal favourites, speaking as someone who lives in vienna for 5 years)

In Belgium I’d also go to Bruge. When you are in Vienna, you could take a boat down the Danube to Budapest. Beautiful and vibrant cities both.

    • Appelkullen

great idea! you could also visit bratislava (by train in i think about an hour or less).

      • Appelkullen

you could also visit prague, but to be honest, it looks just like vienna… although it’s great! i’m from vienna and i was very shocked to see a city so similar. some of the streets i could have sworn are absolutely identical! but prague is absolutely charming. if one loves vienna, they love prague too :)

        • http://www.everydayminimalist.com The Everyday Minimalist

Maybe I can put it down as “Vienna — Prague lookalike” :)

          • Appelkullen

haha! yeah, depends on the point of view :D

If you’re really going to L.A., I can give you restaurant recommendations   :)

    What about New Orleans!!! :)

It was one of my ambitions to visit Vienna. When we finally got there, we had 3 wonderful days and skipped some of the most common stuff, favouring coffee houses (it was February!), an awesome concert at Schönbrunn and the Museum of Art and Design, as well as a special exhibition at the Art Gallery… plus we had lunch on the top floor of a department store, with a fantastic view out over the city ;) and we walked and walked and walked.
Same with Paris and Rome. Guess we prefer to be off the beaten track, now that we are finally able to go places! And I don’t feel we missed a thing.

    • Appelkullen

sounds like a great tour! if one is into classical music, it is IMHO better to go to musikverein because schönbrunn is very touristic (so are the prices). musikverein is the place where the viennese go to listen to schönberg, beethoven or schubert. or konzerthaus (many jazz concerts too, probably also in musikverein, but i’m not sure)
in summer the rathausplatz is great (many cultural events like the opening of the vienna festival (this summer with the arnold schönberg choir): opera, jazz, choir, …) – and the best of it: it’s free :)

I am really into classical but we’re going in winter I think

        • Appelkullen

my mother often goes to the opera in bratislava (because it’s way cheaper but the same quality as in vienna), or she takes standing room tickets for the state opera for only 2 or 3 euro, but you have to stand the whole time of course and you have to queue an hour or so before the opera starts, so that’s probably no  option for tourists. but it’s cheap (she does it for nearly 50 years, she always takes the standing room tickets, so she can go to the opera 2-3 times a month ;) )

          • http://www.everydayminimalist.com The Everyday Minimalist

That sounds amazing…. except I really don’t like opera that much. *laugh*

    • http://www.everydayminimalist.com The Everyday Minimalist

I am so excited for it, I can’t wait. A friend of mine just came back from Vienna and moaned about how expensive it is, so that’s making me shiver.

When you’re in Austin, let me know. I’ve lived here most of my life. I’d love to take you and your boyfriend out for a cup of coffee and give y’all some pointers of what to do while you’re here! You definitely won’t be disappointed with the city. It’s a wonderful one :)

    • http://www.everydayminimalist.com The Everyday Minimalist

      Aww thank you! :)

You’d rather go to Houston than Las Vegas???    ;)

  • Alyssa Hudson

Austin is an awesome place! That’s why I’ve stuck around the past 7 years I’ve lived here :) All your other travels are fantastic and I’m super jealous. However, I know I’ll get there eventually!

    • http://www.everydayminimalist.com The Everyday Minimalist

I am hearing such good things, I can’t wait.

How fun!!! When you travel here to the US, I HIGHLY recommend Austin. Houston though? I’d suggest only going there if you have people to visit. I’m definitely a San Antonio & Austin > Houston person  :)

    • http://www.FabulouslyBroke.com FB @ FabulouslyBroke.com

Got it. Anyway, Austin I hear is one of the most amazing cities in Texas. I’m excited to go there and check it out.

only $4000 for 5 destinations? wow, budget breakdown please :)
my friends and i are planning to go on a euro trip maybe next year or the year after and i’d definitely want to know how we’re going to save but enjoy at the same time.
