When you go on a vacation, do you really relax?
For me, it depends.
I obviously love to travel so I like to visit other countries where I’ve been to before like Portugal, where I can relax and do nothing but shoot the breeze.
If I travel as a tourist, then it’s anything BUT relaxing, but in a good way. I’m on my feet most of the day, trying to absorb and suck in as much of the city as possible before I have to leave. I love seeing things I’ve never seen before.
If I travel for business, it’s all work and no play. I’m the type who doesn’t like to do much after working, even in my home city. I leave that for the weekends.
I find a lot of people who say they go on vacation, tend to fall into two camps: Those who turn off everything and Those who stay connected.
I find a lot of people bring their work along with them to the beach or worse, they’re glued to their cellphone’s ringtone, running off to email and work while they’re trying to relax.
It’s like they can’t shut down.
I am in the camp who turns off everything. I don’t bring my cellphone, my laptop comes along and only gets used if I have a lot of downtime, but I don’t feel like I’m a slave to it.
I’m perfectly willing to shut the lid at a moment’s notice to go to the beach or to take a walk.
