I read a lot of inspirational bloggers who motivate me to do more and to do better things, but the one thing I’ve noticed are basically two common themes in their dreams:
- travel the world
- quit their corporate job
- live on less and with less <– Me
I like traveling a lot, but I prefer smaller trips, one or two months at a time, but I daresay I wouldn’t want to do it for a whole year.
As for quitting my corporate job? I don’t want to. I love it!*
*Although I must note that I do work for myself, but in a corporate setting most of the time.
Your dreams are not someone else’s desires, they’re YOURS
I cannot speak for anyone else, but my family, BF and I really enjoy working and we love our jobs and what we do.
Yes, I know it’s a shocking thing to say on a minimalist blog… but if you think about it, is it really all that shocking?
Isn’t everyone’s goal to love what they do?
Living on a beach is not my paradise, but it may be yours.
Just work towards doing what you want to do whatever it may be
The main thing that is common between all of us, is we are all doing what we want to do.
Every single one of us chose the life we are living, rather than having it chosen for us, and that’s the main message I want everyone to know.
It isn’t evil or wrong to work for a company and enjoy it, and you aren’t silly, mindless sheep for feeling that way.
Besides, as a society, we need people who are engineers, researchers, developers, and they all work for corporations.
See, if we all gave up our jobs and lived on beaches, blogging for the little income we’d need to sustain ourselves, there would be an overnight industry cropping up to address our needs. We’d just shift the balance from one industry to another.
So don’t let anyone dictate your desires, one way or another.
