Beijing Egg House: An architect’s solution for rent-free housing

Anyone want to give this a shot? :) I guess he might employ the once-a-week shower routine we talked about earlier.

UPDATE: It isn’t allowed!

Thank you so much for the comment, Corianne!

And he built it in front of his work place, so he took/takes showers there.

I lived/traveled in a very small travel trailer for three months. It is surprising how quickly not having any space and having to step outside to change your mind can get on your nerves. That egg house is a clever design, but it is in reality nothing more than an inconvenient tent. And a minimalist lifestyle where you mooch off of other people (sleeping on their sofas, living in your parents' (who have jobs that pay the bills) basement, or like this guy using your workplace to take showers, is not an independent minimalist lifestyle. It is mooching. The fact is that you can only get just so minimal before you start compromising your personal hygiene and impinging on others for your basic needs, all the while proclaiming how minimalist you are.

I stayed in an RV for a short amount of time but it sounds like something interesting that I could do again.

The egg design is actually from a guy who has an apartment! can you believe it? he made it as a tent outside of his own high rise.

Oh my god, this is hilarious!!! $1000 – that's the average rent per month for a 1 bedroom apartment in Toronto!! I wonder how my office would feel if I parked one of those in the garden … maybe if I planted tulips in it they'd let me stay.

Makes me reconsider the definition of "homeless." I don't consider this a home, but of course that's by my own cultural standards. Good for him if he's happy though and if he has found some meaning in life.

Apparently his egg is in front of his home! He built it as a statement of some sort but the city made him take it down.

Totally in love with this innovative, tiny house. There is definitely a part of me that longs to live in a tiny portable dwelling, free of responsibilities like rent…and dusting/cleaning things.

The grass is always greener on the other side. ;) I'm sure and others living radical lifestyles, self-imposed or not, would love to live my stable life for a while.

Nice… I wouldn’t want anyone living on an eggpod in front of my house.. On the other hand, i pity those living on an eggpod.. But another part of me, wants to try living on that eggpod.. haha..
