Minimalist Spices: What I use on a regular basis
For me, I used to have a HUGE spice rack filled with every spice imaginable.
Did I use any of them except garlic and onion powder? Not really.
These days, I’ve gotten rid of said spice rack and I’ve focused on what I actually do use.
My list of dried spices
Salt
OK, so it’s considered a staple in cooking, but I do like using a bit of salt here and there
Black Pepper
Not pre-ground, I like to crack my own black pepper for the best flavour (yes it has flavour!) and heat
Garlic Powder
It makes everything taste slightly better. More garlicky than fresh garlic, if you can believe this.
Cumin
Very tasty but I use it in small doses, nothing crazy.
Paprika
I don’t get much flavour from paprika, but I get enough to use it on occasion
I don’t use much of anything else when I cook. Dried spices are great, but I just don’t tend to use them very much.
Fresh herbs and condiments
This is not a dried spice thing, but I use a lot of fresh herbs, oils and condiments.
Rosemary
