Well, a lot of the people doing that 100 things or less, count all their books as one item, so I want to ask why it's just the books that get a free pass, what makes them so much better than everything else? ;) If clothing and shoes are your thing, I don't think you can't ever buy anything other than from pure need. It's not so black and white. There is a HUGE difference between mindless consumerism and being a minimalist who enjoys fashion and sometimes likes to treat herself to a new piece that she absolutely loves, that will become her new favorite, and she will wear for a long time :D

I can't go for the hardcore minimalism because I have a child. I have decluttered our things probably by half though. We are living spaciously in our 600 sqft apartment with empty shelves to spare. But I want to pare down still, I'm just going more slowly now. There will still be some furniture and toys and such :)

I used to follow fashion and buy too many clothes. I stopped reading magazines and going to stores, and what do you know, I don't have a desire for new clothes. Actually it's more of drag now when I NEED to get something new. I don't want to go try and find something great, and I will not buy anything less than great!

Just not a fan of couches.. :) I'd like a big arm chair for me, but a full couch? No real point for me. :(

@Everyday Minimalist

No t.v. here, but my husband and I do cuddle up together on the couch (or couches, depending on if we have the sectional split up) to watch stuff on our laptops. And the seating is nice for company. Even makes a nice place to take a nap or have guests sleep.

However, we did go about a month or so without couches after one of our roommates moved out and took hers. We used fold-up camping chairs and it wasn't too awful. We still use some, in fact, for extra seating when we have more guests over than spots on the couches.

@Abhishek No couch because I don't have a TV :) I mean, most people have couches because it's in front of the TV right?
